Chocapalha is family. Today, three generations come together in the field and winery work. A project that values what is genuine, respects traditions, our culture and identity and welcomes modernity. The involvement of the whole family and employees is a hallmark of the spirit of the project. Chocapalha wines reflect our passion for the Quinta’s unique terroir and the careful work we carry out in the vines and in the cellar. This combination translates into fresh, balanced and elegant wines, with excellent aging potential. Located in Aldeia Galega, in Alenquer, aprox 60 KM north from Lisbon, demarcated region of Lisbon, Quinta de Chocapalha has been mentioned since the 16th century for its excellent vineyards and wines. It belonged, from the beginnings of the 16th century, to Constantine O`Neil, who later donated it to Diogo Duff, the esteemed Scottish nobleman of King John VI who decorated him with the commendation of "Tower and Sword". Quinta de Chocapalha remained in the possession of the Duff family until the eighties of the last century, when it was acquired by Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva. The couple invested in the restructuring and total replanting of the 45 hectares of vineyard and in the winery and introduced new cultivation techniques in order to give continuity to the old traditions of this fifth vineyard, always in search of an improvement of the qualities and prestige of its wines. It was only in the 2000 harvest, when the vines reached their maturity and quality, that it was decided to bottling the best wines produced there. The technical direction has been since them assured by Sandra Tavares da Silva, one of the owners daughter. At Quinta da Chocapalha we treat nature with the greatest respect. We owe to nature everything we do. We plan sustainable agriculture, looking out for the health and longevity of the vineyards. We follow a set of rules of good practice, which demonstrate the great respect for nature. The whole area is in integrated protection mode. Of the 80 hectares in total, 46 are cultivated with vines, 4,5 are cultivated with Pêra Rocha and the remaining space is made up of varied forests, some very old - the oldest dating from the 14th century and the Olive trees make a border on the edge of the property. Our wines are a pure reflect of our terroir and winemaking philosophy, a combination of clay-calcareous soils, with good thermal amplitude and the freshness coming from the nearby Atlantic, and in the celler, a minimum intervention.
