“The quality of a wine cannot be distinguished from the place of origin of the grapes and from the people who produce it”.
Since the very beginning, 1969, we have focused on quality and not quantity. North of Verona, in the town of Negrar (VR, Veneto), at the Valpolicella Classica zone’s highest point (1,148 feet), the “Le Ragose” estate overlooks gentle, lush green hills. The winery is composed of 32 hectares, 18 of which are under vine. The altitude is from 250 to 400 meters high. Le Ragose is a very traditional winery and the wines are made respecting the terroir. We only use local varieties and we age our wines for long time in order to obtain elegance and drinkability.
In 1969 Arnaldo Galli, oenologist, and his wife Marta bought Le Ragose. Nowadays, their sons Paolo, graduated in Business Management, and Marco, graduated in Agriculture with a thesis on “Microvinification of local varieties”, are still researching and experimenting to have always top quality wines. Marta, the daughter of Paolo, graduated in management, with a Ph.D in Management and Innovation in the wine business, is the third generation of “Le Ragose”.
For the production of our grapes, we use the Pergola Trentina Semplice. This method protects the grapes from the sun, the rain and the storms and it is perfect for the production of our local varieties. The deeper level of our soil is “Arenaria Eocenica”. This soil comes from the geological era “Eocene” and it works like a sponge keeping the humidity in the roots. This is one of the reasons why at Le Ragose we do not need irrigation. Below the surface, we have both brown and red clay and volcanic soil that are rich in minerals.
