La Ciarliana in Montepulciano, Toscana, is a family run - human dimensioned estate
We own 21 Hectares mainly planted with Sangiovese, of which we are crazy fanatical fans; yearly we bottle more or less 50.000 bottles.
We produce mainly Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg and Rosso di Montepulciano doc. Our selected Cru is named Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg Vigna ‘Scianello. We do also produce Donna Claudia Rosè Toscana Igt, a Supertuscan named Santo Pellegrino and Vin Santo di Montepulciano doc
We are very proud to be the opposite of a multinational group, moved by an authentic, indomitable passion for our job.
Always aiming at the highest quality, we do truly love what we do and do that with the keenest cruel passion. Our history starts in the 60’, when Luigis’s grandfather landed in Montepulciano from the area surrounding Benevento.
Those 2 hectares owned at the beginning, became eight thanks to the efforts of Luigi’s father. They did produce and sold grapes, but did not owned a winery nor they produced wine at that time. Luigi was born here and grew up along these rows. He eat bread and passion for wine.
He became an agronomist and started his career as a very estimated consultant for one of the most famous estate of the south Sienese area, taking care of the Maremma and Montalcino productions. We was well known, with an enviable position …but he had a dream.
And in 1996 that dream became true: he stopped working as consultant and bottled his first own vintage of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano La Ciarliana.
The winery was built between 2000 and 2002, even though it would be more correct to say that, as of today, we are still working on that, embellishing the porch, the garden, the gate…. Why? Because the Winery Hospitality is an important branch of our activity.
