The Institute aims to:
The company Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute is the result of the intuition of Ambrogio Folonari and his son Giovanni. They descend from a family historically dedicated to wine business. Since late 1700s the Folonaris have operated in the vinegrowing and wineproducing field and have contributed to writing the history of Italian wine. At the beginning of 2000 Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari took new and original directions focusing only on Tuscan excellencies from the most important wine production areas. The philosophy behind the goals of “Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute” is based on the ownership and management of five famous agricultural estates located in Tuscany. The Estates are: Tenuta di Nozzole (Chianti Classico) – Tenute del Cabreo (Super Tuscan) – Tenuta La Fuga, (Montalcino) – Tenuta Campo al Mare (Bolgheri) - Vigne a Porrona (Maremma). Ambrogio and Giovanni still carry out an important project of revaluation of the territory and its diversity, investing in the estates and focusing on the production of quality wines, elegant, with character and strongly linked to the territory.

The history of the Argiolas Winery began in the early years of the last century with Antonio, its patriarch and founder. He it was who began to plant the vineyards and produce wine, in an ongoing search for quality. His two sons, Franco and Giuseppe, inherited his passion and in their turn passed it on. Today the Winery can boast the collaboration of the third generation of the Argiolas: that of Antonio’s grandchildren.
The Winery is at Serdiana, near Cagliari, in the close hinterland. This is an area of softly-rounded hills, set in the form of an amphitheatre round the city and its gulf. The Winery’s wines are the fruit of five separate vineyards, including that of Serdiana, for a total of almost 250 hectares, in three areas of southern Sardinia with a long tradition of grapevine cultivation. Three of them are in the Trexenta, the hilly region just to the north of Serdiana. At one time it was known as the granary of Rome; today it boasts lush orchards and olive groves, rows of grapes and fields.
The fifth vineyard is at Porto Pino, in the Sulcis, fronting the sea. This is the land of the Carignano cultivar, an area so well adapted to grape growing that it appears that the tradition dates at least from the Phoenician seamen and explorers. In these lands, the great Sardinian cultivars are grown, some famous such as Cannonau, Vermentino, and Carignano, and others less so, such as Monica, Bovale, Nasco, Girò and Nuragus.
The Argiolas philosophy is indeed to produce exclusively from traditional Sardinian grape varieties, spreading their fame worldwide. This is an experiment which traces its roots back to the ancient vineyards which harbour almost forgotten treasures. Then, while cultivating, the search goes on for quality, respecting the variety, reducing the grape yield of each plant. From this choice come wines whose fame goes well beyond the borders of Sardinia, such as Turriga and Korem, and others which are just beginning to be well- known, such as Iselis red and Iselis white.
Carpenè-Malvolti is one of the historic and most respected names in Italian sparkling wine, particularly renowned for its Prosecco. Founded in 1868 in Conegliano, in the heart of the Veneto region, it is widely recognized as a pioneer of the Prosecco tradition. Antonio Carpenè, the founder, was an innovator and one of the first to apply scientific methods to winemaking - even contributing to the establishment of Italy's first oenological school.
The Brand today stands for heritage, quality and innovation, blending more than 157 years of winemaking expertise with modern techniques.
Carpenè - Malvolti represents the authentic spirit of Prosecco where tradition meets innovation - a benchmark for excellence in Italian sparkling wines.
RIVERA AND THE DE CORATO FAMILY
The de Corato family roots go deep into the countryside of Puglia, more precisely in Andria on the high plain between the Murgia hills and the Adriatic Sea. Here Giuseppe, the family patriarch born in the midst of the XIX century, was a farmer with entrepreneurial spirit. In 1921 he acquired the large estate owned for centuries by the noble Rivera family, whose founder Pietro had been captain of Emperor Fredrick II of Swabia in XII century, and made of it a model in vine and olive production.
It is in Rivera historical cellars that Sebastiano, Giuseppe youngest and most visionary son, founded the winery in the late 1940s, inspired by a vision of realising the enormous viticultural potential of the hilly area dominated by Castel del Monte, Fredrick II’s masterpiece and the area’s landmark. His ambition of creating a brand that would finally represent Puglia in the world’s wine firmament and his tenacity were soon to be rewarded as Rivera quickly become benchmark of Puglia quality wine production and force driving its rebirth.
In the ’70 Sebastiano’s son Carlo introduced innovations in both vineyards and winemaking that led to the development of wines that innovated the region’s wine scene. Under his mentoring his sons Sebastiano and Marco, representing the fourth generation, bear with pride and continue with commitment a century long history of success that has made Rivera wines ambassadors of Puglia in the world’s markets.
ESTATE AND WINERY
Located on the Roman Traian road at the foot of the Alta Murgia hills where ancient trails would bring herds of sheep from Abruzzo every autumn for their winter pastures, Rivera estate testify to the history and evolution of agricultural production of a whole territory. The winery’s historical nucleus dates back to the late 1800s and hosts red riserva wines in its below-ground barrel cellars with over 400 French oak barriques, 20 3,000-litre French oak and 9 5,500-litre Slavonian oak casks. A newer wing added in the 1960s with built-in glass lined cement vats, now completely tempera-ture controlled, is used for post-fermentation fining and maturation of white, rosè and young red wines. Epicentre of today’s winemaking activities is the new modern, efficient fa cility no w ri ses next to historical buildings, with small stainless-steel fermenters custom-designed for on-the-skins macerations for red and rosé wines, and well suited for whites. The entire winery complex is served by a solar-panel installation that covers 35% of its total energy needs.
WINES
Rivera range of wines is naturally centred on Castel del Monte DOC, as well as the recent DOCGs, of which the winery has always been leading proponent and benchmark. In almost 70 vintages of history Rivera has developed a range of wines that explores most of the appellation’s styles and native as well as more recently introduced grape varieties, with whites, rosè and reds from the fresh and delicate to the complex and well-structured.
At the same time the portfolio extends southwards toward Salento showcasing its most important denominations (Locorotondo, Salice Salentino, Primitivo di Manduria) and native grape varieties (Primitivo and Negroamaro) that yield wines with great concentra-tion and Mediterranean personality.
The common mark of all Rivera wines is the oenological style that rigorously interprets and respects the different terroirs and varietals, yet with great balance between complexity, finesse and drinkability for the discerning consumer’s pleasure of taste. A style that combines the roots in tradition and attention to the evolution of winemaking techniques and of the market.
For almost two centuries, one of Italy's oldest and most prestigious family-owned wineries, Tasca d'Almerita, has been operating at the Regaleali Estate in the rural heart of Sicily.
It was here that Count Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita planted Perricone and Nero d'Avola as small trees on the San Lucio hill in 1959, investing in a future that few Sicilians could imagine at the time. Doing so, he laid the foundations for the first wine from a single vineyard in Sicily: Riserva del Conte, later called Rosso del Conte, worthy of competition with the best European and New World vintages. His son Lucio continued the quest for excellence, planting the first international varieties in Sicily and modernising Tasca d'Almerita's winemaking facilities.
Today, Lucio's son Alberto Tasca passionately upholds his father's and grandfather's dedication to quality and passion for innovation and research. He has expanded and enriched this legacy with a focus on sustainability, which is expressed in the patient, attentive and age-old care of the territories where Tasca lives and works.
Starting in 2001, with a detailed project to enhance the value of particularly suitable territories, he has driven the systematic expansion of the company – Regaleali has been joined over time by other Estates: Capofaro in Salina, Tascante on Mount Etna, Whitaker in Mozia and Sallier de La Tour in the Monreale DOC territory. The bond that unites each of these estates is Sicily itself.
Tasca d'Almerita has been a part of the SOStain programme since 2009, committing to a process of continuous improvement that has over time led it to reduce the impact of its activities in the vineyard, in the cellar and throughout the organisation.
A constant commitment that has resulted in Tasca d'Almerita receiving the "European Winery of the Year" award from Wine Enthusiast magazine and the prestigious Green Emblem from Robert Parker Wine Advocate, an acknowledgement given by one of the most important critics in the international wine world to companies that have demonstrated extraordinary efforts in the search for virtuous agricultural and oenological practices, with an eye to long-term environmental protection and the safeguarding of biodiversity.
Tasca d' Almerita is now a certified B Corp and has become part of a small international network organisations that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, responsibility, and transparency. Tasca d’Almerita is the first Sicilian winery to achieve this milestone, recognising a great commitment to the development of sustainable viticulture which is mindful of the planet and the community.
Umani Ronchi was founded in Cupramontana, within the heart of the Verdicchio Classico production area, in le Marche region in the early 1950s. It has been family-owned ever since and, through the research of the best territories and a willingness to experiment, the winery has grown and expanded its reach over the years. From Castelli di Jesi to Conero and then Abruzzo, Umani Ronchi’s estates are cultivated with the indigenous varieties of the Adriatic Coast, with a strict adherence to the principles of organic and sustainable agriculture.
