Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara was founded by Mario Logi. It was the beginning of the Fifties when Mario, not yet an adult, worked already in the fields. Time and determination helped him to give birth to our firm, first just a breeding farm and then a real wine state.
Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara turned into a winery in 2002, after the purchase of Pieve di San Donato and its land nearby, when the youngest Marios son, Alessio Logi, thanks to his enological studies ,has recognized the power of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano. The older brothers, Giampiero and Stefano were easily and happily involved in this adventure, and soon the business became a family tradition. Also with the entering of the new generation everybody maintain his own rule and a participate in the common vision.
The cellar is born in San Donato and gives us the possibility to make our first shy but not uncertain steps. The first year we have produced 5.000 bottles sell locally. This was appreciated and therefore it gave us the push to start the project and arrived in 2013 to produce 90.000 bottles.
In 2007 the wine word discovers this new reality that with courage bet on the territory and on the purity Vernaccia di San Gimignano . The Gambero Rosso reviewed Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara by dedicated a big page.
The real turning-point arrived with the vintage 2011, when after two years of experience refining in the wine-yard and cellar, Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara discover its style. The maceration becomes more modern, we try to find the best balance , to exalt the acidity, freshness, verticality and prickly. Selvabianca 2011 is the result up today.
In 2012 all the highest wine guides gives there highest recognitions to Campo della Pieve e Riserva L'Albereta.
Today even the red wines, Chianti Colli Senese DOCG Campale, IL Priore Riserva, IGT Toscana Rosso Colombaio, Cabernet Franc Bacicolo have their own elegant and original style, reflecting the territory of production.
