Fattoria Poggio Alloro is a family owned Organic Winery & Farm.
Fattoria Poggio Alloro is situated in the hills of San Gimignano, Tuscany.
The farm has a rich history. The Fioroni family came to this land as sharecroppers in 1955 from the Marche area of Italy.
At that time sharecroppers worked on the farm for a place to live and food and a small salary. The family did that for 16 years.
In 1971 after years of hard work, the farm was bought by the Fioroni brothers, Umberto, Amico, and Bernardo. The farm first consisted of 50 hectares (about 120 acres) where the brothers raised different kinds of grain, olive trees and vines and 20 Chianina cattle. The family members were skilled workers and have been lovers of the land for generations and in time and with their hard work the farm grew to 250 acres.
This land is now filled with vineyards, olive groves, cereal crops, woods, fruit trees, vegetables, saffron, and pastures for the farm's animals. They also have a herd of 60 special Chianina beef cattle and serve the wonderful beefsteak Fiorentina in their restaurant. This is a self-supporting family farm where they also raise chickens, rabbits, and pigs, and have 35 beehives for the production of honey. They produce their own prosciutto, salami, pasta, and other food items you will eat while staying at their farm. Being a guest in the Bed and Breakfast at Fattoria Poggio Alloro lets you experience being part of an Italian farm family for a few days. It is truly and incredible and memorable experience.
PHILOSOPHY AND WINE MAKING
Special attention has been given to the care of our vineyards. The knowledge and experience in the field of wine making gained by the three brothers over the years, led them in 1989 to a new business venture: bottling and selling their wine.
The genuine quality of our wine starts in the vineyard, where we practice severe pruning, low yields, and the use of organic fertilizers, in order to guarantee the complete respect of the environment and of the organic farming system.
During the harvest, the careful selection of the grapes ensures the unique characteristics of the wines.
The vinification and the aging of some of our wines takes place in stainless steel vats, while other wines are aged in French oak barrels for a full and complex bouquet.
In the wine cellar, modern technologies are combined with skill and experience in a perfect, balanced union between innovation and tradition.
With 250,000 bottles a year, the production has now reached significant results in wine varieties and quality, successfully completing the path undertaken by the Fioroni brothers.
