Co-exhibitor of RHONE VALLEY VINEYARDS
“Vignerons en Agriculture Biologique”, Gilles Phétisson and Caroline Bonnefoy have been working together since 2005. They vinify their estates separately, “Lumian” for him, “Bonnefoy” for her.
DOMAINE DE LUMIAN :
Winegrowers for three generations, in the heart of the Enclave of the Popes in Vaucluse, it was in 1983 that Gilles Phétisson settled on 5 hectares of vines and created his cellar the "Domaine de Lumian" named after the plain which adjoins The cave. For as long as he can remember, his passion for vines and wine has animated him, so over the years, other plots have come to expand his estate. Located in the Valréas terroir, the Domaine de Lumian now covers 35 hectares.
A cool subsoil and an altitude of 210m to 260m for the hillsides, make this terroir one of the latest in the appellation, which allows you to wait for optimal phenolic maturity without reaching too many alcohol levels. students.
In 1999, he opted for healthier agriculture, and engaged in organic farming. Thus, the soils are worked over the entire width and under the row. The plots are decompressed with a subsoiler every other row, to promote soil aeration and promote the root system. Treatments against possible attacks of mildew or powdery mildew are only based on sulfur, copper, trace elements, and always in a reasoned manner according to the risks linked to the climate, to the sensitivity of the plot and the grape varieties.
The amendments are organic and, since 2011, the estate has been making its own compost. A real plot selection was made according to the profile of the desired wine.
The stony lands with limestone clay subsoil have been planted with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan for the red wines. The sandy soils dating from the tertiary era are intended for the production of white and rosé.
The cellar, equipped with a stainless steel vat room with automatic piggers, also houses a high-performance low-pressure pneumatic press.
The wines produced are mainly red (70%), supplemented by rosés (20%) and 10% white.
Vinification: Red: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan; traditional vinification with punching down of the harvest and total destemming, the different grape varieties are blended during the vinification.
Rosé: Cinsault and Grenache, vinification at low temperature after settling.
White: Grenache blanc, Viognier, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Marsanne and Roussanne; vinified at low temperature after settling
DOMAINE CAROLINE BONNEFOY
It was in 1999, after studying oenology, that Caroline Bonnefoy decided to embrace the profession of winegrower. She moved with her sister and her father to Valréas on the estate's land, which has been a family property for over a century. In 2005, the 2 sisters decided to separate the farm to stand on their own two feet. Over time, the property expands and gives pride of place to new appellations.
Today, Caroline operates 45 hectares of vines in four different appellations: Valréas, Cru Rasteau, Cru Beaumes de Venise, Ventoux.
Located at an altitude of 210m, the Valréas vineyard, planted with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan, benefits from a strong mistral and good sunshine. It is therefore subject to a somewhat late maturity. Its clay-limestone soil and stony on the surface contains, at a depth of one meter, important gravel banks, allowing to keep the freshness of the soil and the natural drainage of the land.
In the family for two centuries, the Rasteau vineyard, restored in 2006, occupies 4 hectares. Benefiting from a full southern exposure, sheltered from the Mistral by the hill and by a forest, it has a very stony ground composed of rolled pebbles and a clay-limestone subsoil, of high density, preventing any intervention in the event of rain.
Arranged in terraces facing due north, over 3 hectares, the Beaumes de Venise vineyard extends over schist soils under compounds of blue marl.
5 hectares of Ventoux, acquired in 2009, at the foot of the giant of Provence complete the selection. 95% of the wines produced are reds.
Since 2019, Caroline brings freshness, delicacy and lightness with the production of a white Ventoux.
Since 2005, Gilles Phétisson has managed the wine-growing part in organic farming, while Caroline devotes herself to winemaking. Passionate about her profession, Caroline seeks to restore the best expression of the soil and the vine through her bottles.
