About

Our history : En 2005 Lydia and Claude Bourguignon, world renowned vineyard’s soil experts, sought to restore a vineyard abandoned following the phylloxeraplague of 1870. During a soil expertise in the Cahors region, they discovered a south-east facing Kimmeridgian hillside located 5 minutes away from the medieval city center of Cahors. The forest clearance carried out in 2006 and 2007 revealed the remains of ancient vineyards plots along side abandoned stone huts (called Gariottes) and walls. Feral vines, an old well stained by copper sulfate and archives brought the final proof that this place had a vibrant viticultural past. The soils were rested under a meadow for a couple of years, until the first rootstocks were planted (2009) at high density (9 600 vines / ha) compared to the regional average of 4 000 vines/ha. It takes 3 to 6 years for the rootstock to establish in this stony, shallow soil before it can be grafted. Several grafting campaigns took place between 2012 and 2019 all with massale selection cuttings sought from famous vineyards. Emmanuel Bourguignon joined us in 2009, the first vintage we sold in 2017 was vinified by Emmanuel Bourguignon. Since then, our cuvées Néphèle and Nigrine are showing more and more complexity, terroir expression and character with every passing year, making us wonder what will be the limit?
