I am Florence, grown up in Caderousse, a small village situated next to the Rhône river, 10km away from Châteauneuf du Pape. As a child, there were always great wines on the dinner table for family meals. And most important, a dad passionate about wine, who made his dream come true in 1999 by buying two plots of vines : 3,5 ha in AOC Châteauneuf du Pape, and 3ha in AOC Côtes du Rhône. When i turned 18, I left home to study Chemistry at the university, saying "I'll come back someday". In the meantime, I met my husband Thomas, and we have worked 7 years in Switzerland in the pharmaceutical industry. As we felt the "call of Terroir", we decided in 2019 to let go this future that was all planned out to go back to my region of origin and take the family estate over. Today, La Durbane represents 15,5 ha of vines in production, of which 7,5 ha on the AOC Châteauneuf du Pape, 4 ha on the AOC Côtes du Rhône and 4 ha of Vin de France vines. Thomas is German, and we have lived in Switzerland 7 years : influenced by these cultures, we feel a lot concerned about global warming and climate change. It was an evidence for us to start a conversion to organic farming as soon as we took the estate over. We will be certified by Ecocert from vintage 2023. For us, reducing our impact on the environment must be taken care of on all levels : it is not enough to only stop using synthetic crop-protecion products, we need to do more. Our actions: planting melliferous plants on fallow lands to favour pollinating insects, selection of local tree varieties to plant hedges, who play the role of host for biodiversity, organisation of vineyard tasks in order to reduce tractor use etc. We are working a lot to bring back life in the soils, in order to have healthy vines which can adapt to climate change and produce beautiful grapes. Our aim: craft wines with emotions, character and taste!
