Co-exhibitor of RHONE VALLEY VINEYARDS
The story begins in 1953, when Jean-Louis Ferran fell in love with a ruined farmhouse bordered by woods, perched on the heights of Rasteau, overlooking the valley, facing Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail. For more than a decade, with the help of his sons Daniel and Jean-Pierre, they planted vines and realised the dream of producing their own wine.
Gilles, Daniel's son, arrived in 1986, after graduating in oenology. Supported by his wife Laurence, he vinified his first vintages in 1999, and thus shaped the identity of the estate. Wines in their image, all in finesse, deep and greedy, made for sharing. Under the caring eye of her friend Philippe Cambie, partner in the Calendal estate and a great oenologist. Madeline joined the estate in 2018 and represents the fourth generation and the first women winemaker.
"Escaravay", which means Scarabée in Occitan, was the nickname given by the inhabitants of the village to the black penitents of Avignon who owned the land in the 1600s.
We work with a mosaic of different and complementary terroirs. The marls of Rasteau, coupled with the pebbles, bring minerality, complexity and depth to the wines. The sands of Cairanne offer incomparable finesse and elegance.
We have more than fifteen red and white grape varieties. This diversity, historic of the region, is a guarantee of quality.
Our underground cellar allows for long maturation and we use various containers and materials to adapt to the grape varieties and vintages and to let the potential of each terroir express itself.
