Co-exhibitor of RHONE VALLEY VINEYARDS
Located near the village of Lourmarin, in the heart of the Luberon Mountains - in Provence - celebrated for the beauty of its landscapes, you will discover the Château Fontvert vineyard. The estate, founded in 1598, was runned by the same Huguenot family for over three centuries. It is out of passion for vineyards and love for the region that Doctor Olivier Monod, mayer of the village, decided to settle on the Fontvert domain in the middle of last century.
In 1999, Jérôme Monod and his three sons Fabrice, Guillaume and Donatien, driven by the same passion, and seducted by the wide variety of vines and the richness of the domain, decided to vinify and age wine.
THE TERROIR
Our vineyard of 22 hectares benefits a pebbly and well drained calcareous sandstone soil, on which Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Vermentino and Grenache Blanc express themselves fully. The Luberon Mountains give a cool nuance to the Mediterranean climate, providing wines with a delicate balance.
Besides, the great age of vines secures a natural regulation of yields (below 35 hectoliter/hectare) guaranteeing a high concentration of polyphenols and aromatic precursors in berries.
VITICULTURAL PRACTICE
All viticultural practice is oriented towards production of a healthy and quality harvest, and in a constant effort to preserve the environment.
Our vineyard is notably cultivated in organic farming and in biodynamic farming (Demeter) for more than 10 years.
The careful trellising of vines and the limited yield allow perfect grape ripening.
Careful selection, constant maturation control and rigourous sorting offer optimal grape quality.
THE WINERY
Our winery, inaugurated for the 2004 harvest, benefits from a high vat volume and all the most recent equipments: vibrating sort table, pneumatic press, automatic temperature regulation of the vats (hot and cold)... All these characteristics allow an efficient and rigorous work of our products.
Our oenoligical practices combine both tradition and modernity. Tradition, reflected by the use of century-old means of vinification (a severe limitation of oenological products, no yeast added) and the exclusive use of french-oak barrels. Modernity, stated by the quality of our equipment, the precision and strict followup of each and every step of the winemaking process.
Year after year, we aim to keep up the spirit of our work and to learn from our past experiences, in order to obtain the highest possible quality of the products we offer you.
THE WINE AGEING
A 200m² cellar was built, allowing the ageing of our wines (red and white) in optimal conditions. The temperature and hygrometry are kept even all year long.
THE STORAGE SHED
An air-conditioned storage shed allows us to age our bottles until ready for selling.
