Since its founding in 1947 in the Vosges Mountains of Alsace, the distillation of botanicals has been the core expertise of the NUSBAUMER distillery.
Our natural environment and its biodiversity have always led us to distil a wide variety of botanicals. For more than 70 years, we have been distilling fruits (pear, plum, raspberry, …), as well as plants, berries and regional botanicals (rosehip, wild service tree, sloe, elderberry, rowan, caraway, holly berries, fir buds, …).
One of the distillery’s key characteristics is its scale — the size of both its stills and its storage facilities.
Our three medium-sized Muller copper stills are each dedicated to a specific type of distillation, operating like three micro-distilleries within the Nusbaumer distillery:
— cereals for whisky,
— fruits for eaux-de-vie,
— and plants for modern spirits.
Our storage facilities also allow us to work in small batches, thanks to a large number of tanks of all sizes (110 stainless steel tanks), offering substantial storage capacity (250,000 litres).
A testament to this expertise, the distillery takes pride in its many international medals and awards (more than 100 international distinctions). In 2019, it was awarded the EPV label — Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant — by the French State.
