Since the Middle Ages the fine wines of the Château de Pizay have appealed to the most demanding Beaujolais lovers. Raised amongst the choicest vintages, its noble descendants are still made, respecting the best traditions and savoured the world over. One thousand years of history The layout makes one think of a Roman villa, a near certainty considering that an ancient road passes very near by. But it’s not until 1030 that the name of Pizay is first mentioned in the archives of the abbey of Cluny. In 1070 a surrounding wall was built by the lords of Pizay. They built the sturdy donjon in the XIVth century and two centuries later a formal garden was added, putting the finishing touch of charm and gentleness to the estate. The wine domain Pizay is one of the most important estates in the Beaujolais and spreads over 75 ht, producing several appellations. - 31 Ha red Beaujolais 21 Ha Morgon 5 Ha Régnié 4 Ha white Beaujolais In August 1998, the Château purchased a domain in Brouilly : the Château de Saint Lager, this new appellation is produced at the foot of the famous hill of Brouilly. 14 ha Brouilly “Château de Saint Lager” The entire harvest is vinified, aged and bottled at the Château. More than 450 000 bottles The whole production of the domain is sold in bottles. One third of the wine is purchased by private persons for their own consumption. A second third is sold to restaurants and fine wine merchants. The rest of the production is exported all over the world.
