Co-exhibitor of PIEMONTE LAND OF WINE
Cascina Gentile is located in southwest Piedmont, included in DOCG Ovada and Gavi. We are less than an hour's drive from Genoa, on the road linking Capriata d'Orba to San Cristoforo. the winery with its eleven hectares of vineyards produces wine since three generations with the denomination of origin typical for the place.
Everything began in the early sixties when Giovanni Gentile, a farmer, planted his future vineyards in an area of Capriata d'Orba particularly suited to wine production, called "the Gazzolo".
With the construction of the dwelling and the winery, overlooking the vineyards, the company took the name of "Cascina Gentile" and began selling bottled wines using the flourishing of the certification designation of origin.
In 1984 his son Giuseppe took over the winery and improved the winemaking systems as well grape production by restricting the use of synthetic chemicals, always in constant search of authenticity and the quality of products.
Since 2009 the ownership and management of the winery have been entrusted to Daniele Oddone, grandson of the founder. Daniele has a degree in viticulture and enology after graduating from the prestigious and historic Wine School of Alba, which aims to maintain the traditional spirit of the house wine though introducing new production techniques and winemaking.
From 2015 the winery also manages an estate near Tortona where the vintage 2015 has got the first Timorasso with the prestigious DOC Colli Tortonesi Derthona.
Today, the company covers about eighteen hectares of which ten vineyards produce grapes according to organic production standards.
All the wines are made exclusively with grapes from our vineyards, and are classified according to DOCG Gavi, Ovada and Colli Tortonesi Derthona. Among the wines that are aged for at least 24 months in oak barrels are Ovada DOCG Riserva and Barbera del Monferrato DOC "Barberrique".
The two sparkling wines are produced with the classic method and stay in the bottles on the yeast for at least 60 months (one white based on Cortese and a rosé "Barbabianca" based on Barbera) and a sweet wine "Spess" made with Cortese aging in barrels oak for 36 months. The winery is enrolled at FIVI (Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers) and we follow every step of the production, from grape cultivation to the finished bottle, all strictly on the farm and using only our own grapes.
