José Pariente Verdejo “White Young Wine DO Rueda of the Year 2026” by Tim Atkin
Bodegas José Pariente was founded in 1998 by Victoria Pariente with a clear vision: to demonstrate the outstanding potential of the Verdejo grape variety, not only in its fresh and varietal expression but also in its ageing capacity and ability to evolve over time.
Over the years, the winery has become one of the leading references in Rueda, combining tradition, innovation and a deep connection to the vineyard.
Today, we produce five single-varietal Verdejo wines (José Pariente Verdejo, Las Fincas, Finca La Medina, Finca Las Comas and 25 Años en Barrica), two Sauvignon Blanc wines (José Pariente Sauvignon Blanc and Apasionado, the latter being a late-harvest sweet wine), and out of the DO, a Rosé made from Viognier, Tempranillo and Garnacha, created as a tribute to Victoria, the driving force behind the winery.
In 2013, Martina and Ignacio Pariente founded Bodegas Prieto Pariente, a complementary project focused on singular vineyard sites. Their philosophy is rooted in respect for the landscape and the traditional grape varieties of Castilla y León. The result is two white wines (Viognier and O’Chan, a Godello from DO Bierzo) and three red wines (La Provincia, El Origen —Tempranillo from DO Cigales— and Confines, a Garnacha from DO Cebreros), each expressing a strong sense of origin.
At the beginning of 2024, we took another important step in our family history with Pariente Tradición Familiar, continuing the legacy of Galician winegrower Arsenio Paz in the recovery of native varieties in Ribeiro. This project builds upon the heritage of A Vilerma, a historic 6-hectare estate located in the Avia Valley. There, we produce two white wines and one red wine, traditional field blends of native varieties cultivated on the estate since 1977 (A Vilerma, Picañón and a new white wine).
