Dürnberg

Austria
4 | H 339.04

The Dürnberg winery is located in the traditional village of Falkenstein,
the historic heart of the Weinviertel, about 1 hour north of Vienna.
Viticulture has been documented here since the 12th century, and between the 13th century and the 17th century
Wine-growing matters between Vienna and Brno were regulated by the Falkenstein Mountain Court. The memorable labels show an excerpt from one of the oldest wine codes, the Falkensteiner Bergtaidingbuch from 1309. An authentic homage to the region's long winemaking tradition.
The cool characteristics of the wines are the result of an exceptional terroir. On the lime-rich soils and thanks to a favorable microclimate, the grapes reach ideal ripeness. This creates wines with fine aromas.
     pronounced fruit and vital acidity.
Of course, Grüner Veltliner is the leading variety in all its facets. Another focus is on the Burgundy varieties, which show the great potential around Falkenstein from the limestone-rich altitudes.

Markowitsch, Carnuntum, Lower Austria

Member of ÖTW (Austrian Traditional Wineries) - 5***** winery

The wines of Gerhard Markowitsch are defined by a fine, dense body, without being overpowering. They are always accompanied by a light freshness. He is now actively supported by his daughter Johanna.

"We cultivate six single vineyards in the villages of Göttlesbrunn, Höflein, and Prellenkirchen, and we primarily stand for Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and Chardonnay. Working in harmony with nature and farming organically, we create wines shaped by our home, Carnuntum—wines that express their very essence. We rely on hand harvesting, craftsmanship, and sustainable organic vineyard management across 60 hectares of carefully tended vineyards"

MORIC

Austria
4 | J 307.11

With Weingut Moric, founded in 2001, Roland Velich has fundamentally reshaped the perception of Austrian wine. At its core is Blaufränkisch from old vineyards in Lutzmannsburg, interpreted with great care, imagination, and respect for origin and history. The wines combine depth, precision, and elegance and have for many years been internationally recognised as leading expressions of their grape variety. Following the re-evaluation of Blaufränkisch in Lutzmannsburg, the focus turns eastward to Hungary. In Tokaj, Moric is dedicated to Furmint, a grape variety with a centuries-old history. Crafted in a dry, finely nuanced style, the wines clearly reflect climate, soil, and provenance, contributing to a new positioning of Tokaj.

Weingut FJ Gritsch

Austria
4 | F 323.02

The FJ Gritsch winery blends the past with the present while always keeping an eye on the future. Franz-Josef Gritsch represents the seventh generation of the family to cultivate wine at the historic Mauritiushof estate in Spitz on the Danube. Naturally, tradition and inherited knowledge are of paramount importance here. However, top quality can only be achieved through continuous development. This is exemplified by the Kalmuck cellar, where the wine is produced using state-of-the-art technology.

The connection between tradition and modernity is also evident in FJ Gritsch's vineyards: countless stone terraces have been recultivated in recent years. One example is the challenging Kalkofen vineyard in the Spitzer Graben, located at the climatic limit of where viticulture is still possible. In addition, FJ Gritsch also cultivates the Burgweingarten vineyard in Dürnstein, the last large vineyard within the historic city walls.

WEINGUT SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG GMBH

Austria
4 | G 279.05

SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG is one of the oldest wineries in Austria with a documented history back to the 12thcentury. In 2021 the estate is celebrating 850 years of winemaking as Cistercian monks from Burgundy received their first vineyards in the Danube area in 1171, which marks the beginning of a long tradition of wine production.

Today the estate is not only a heritage of Austrian wine, but one of the most internationally rewarded ambassadors for Austrian culture of wine. Located in the Danube valley - 45 min west of Vienna - the winery is focusing on the regional-, village- and single vineyard wines of the Danube appellations. Aside from the typical styles of the area, the estate is looking after a few specialities like red wines based on the Pinot family, quality sparkling production, sweet wines (including icewine) and historical winemaking, which is related to the winemaking philosophies based on the rich history of the estate.

Schloss Gobelsburg is member of “Österreichische Traditionsweingüter” – an association of leading Austrian wineries, which is the institution that is looking after the vineyard classification in Austria.

Weingut Velich

Austria
4 | J 307.03

Our wine estate is located in the Lake Neusiedl-Seewinkel National Park in the province of Burgenland – a unique area in Austria, which also informs the character of our winery and wine. We produce only a few but excellent wines. Everything we do draws from the nature and culture of the Seewinkel area – because the Seewinkel in Burgenland is the key to the exceptional quality of our wine.

The Velich wine estate is a family business firmly rooted in the region. Its grounds currently comprise ten hectares of cultivated vineyards, approximately 90 percent of which ¬are located within the national park. Our winery exclusively produces white wines, which have a longstanding tradition in this area.
